Overview:
My friend and I started this page around a niche we both found interesting, film photography. What began as a passion project quickly turned into a fast-growing community. We focused our strategy around how TikTok’s algorithm promotes content, combining organic storytelling with platform-savvy techniques.
What We Did:
We built momentum by posting consistently, going live regularly, and creating an engaging community through comments and DMs. We also ran giveaways to boost engagement and follower growth, and made sure our videos leaned into the aesthetic side of film photography, which naturally performs well on visual-first platforms.
One unexpected win came from a “think outside the box” moment, when we realized that small, intentional mistakes (like loading a film camera slightly wrong) would trigger tons of comments correcting us. It was a surprising but effective way to drive engagement and visibility, and we leaned into it strategically.
Results:
The account now has over 32,000 followers and nearly 700,000 likes. Several of our videos have crossed the half-million mark in views, with one passing 1.7 million. It’s been a great case study in building a niche community from scratch using platform-specific strategies and a little creativity.
