Project Type: Event Promotion
Medium: Custom Signage + Poster Design
Overview:
While working on marketing for a student-based housing property in Orem, Utah, I was always looking for ways to boost engagement and attendance at community events. Typically, our event promotions relied on simple posters with the name, date, and time. But for this Open Mic Night, I wanted to break away from that routine and try something more attention-grabbing.
What I Did:
I came up with the idea to build a custom bistro-style sign using plywood and string lights—something bold, warm, and in line with the vibe of a classic open mic venue. The handmade marquee-style sign lit up the hallway and immediately caught people’s attention. It worked alongside the posters but served as the main visual hook.
Results:
The event was one of our most successful. The sign drew in more foot traffic, sparked conversations, and created a memorable impression that went beyond a typical flyer. It showed how a small change in strategy and presentation can make a big impact in student marketing.
