Hiking Kings Peak with Film Camera

I love going hiking and try to get out as much as I can. I also love taking pictures on my film camera because I put a lot of thought into which film stock I’d use to capture the “aesthetic of the trip”. With this one I did Portra 800 on Kodak Filmstock since I knew it would be a cloudy day most the time I wanted the extra light exposure.

After we summited the highest peak in Utah, we got hit by a nasty rain and thunder storm. When you are that high up, the lightning is right above your head, so the only thing you are thinking about is climbing down. So, unfortunately I didn’t not put my camera inside of my backpack, which completely wrecked the camera itself since we got completely drenched from the thunder storm. Luckily, I was able to salvage the film. I called it my “In Field Pre Wash” of the film before I developed it. I love the look it gave to the pictures I was able to recover. It brings back great memories from a great trip!
