Breaking Through Ad Restrictions to Drive Revenue Growth

Overview:
A consumer goods company selling personal lubricants was facing a major hurdle: every time they tried to run ads on Google or Facebook, they were banned. Their website contained both sexual wellness content (blogs with sex advice) and hemp-based products, both of which were triggering automatic disapprovals. The challenge was finding a way to comply with ad policies without losing the SEO and sales benefits these pages were providing.

What I Did:
I started by digging into the issue with both Google and Facebook policy teams to fully understand why their ads were failing. I realized we couldn’t simply delete the flagged content, since it was driving organic traffic and sales, but we also couldn’t advertise with it in place. My solution was to create a dedicated microsite that highlighted their standard lubricant products, leaving out hemp products and sexual content. I set canonical tags to protect the SEO value of the main site while ensuring the ads pointed to an approved landing page. From there, I launched ads that drove traffic to the microsite, which then funneled customers into the main site for purchases.

Results:
This strategy solved the compliance issue and allowed us to scale ads for the first time. Once the campaigns were live, I built a mix of creative assets—testimonial ads, influencer content, partner campaigns, and seasonal sales pushes. I also refined targeting through remarketing and audience segmentation, experimenting with specific triggers such as wedding anniversaries and related lifestyle interests. In the first full year, revenue grew by 84.79%, jumping from $808K to $1.5M. Traffic to the site increased by 22%, engaged sessions rose by 66%, and the likelihood of purchase per user went up 23%. By solving the compliance barrier and building a strong ad strategy complimented with an improved funnel, the company gained both scale and profitability in their digital marketing.
